Describe various definitions and concepts of information.
Choose Your Own Adventure (LIS 886)
The ability to convey complex ideas in a clear and concise manner is a key tenet of the information profession. This doesn’t apply only in an academic or instructional setting, but in any professional environment dealing with how to organize information and demonstrate that organization to an audience. So though my Records Management course pertained more to a corporate setting than a traditional library, the assignment to package our first eight weeks of learning into a well-communicated project of our own design taught me skills of summary and delivery that could apply in many situations.
For this “Choose Your Own Adventure” project, I chose to make a YouTube-essay-style video, building out new skills in filming and video editing to complete the assignment. Figuring out how to describe key concepts, what to leave out to keep the video within the given parameters, and how to balance “entertainment” with “information” are all useful workplace skills. It also allowed me to practice for my backup career as a YouTuber, if this library thing doesn’t work out.
