Alma Training Videos (College of DuPage)

In many professional contexts, one’s own knowledge is only as good as one’s ability to share it with others. Throughout the Master’s program, our grades would depend on how we could translate the knowledge we had gathered to our instructors or fellow students. Learning the best way to present information and walk others through complex tasks could be useful in everything from reference interactions to presentations to leadership.

I used the skills I learned, primarily from my Facilitating User Learning and Information Needs course, in my own workplace when I was asked to make training videos on our ILS software. This project not only required video filming and editing skills, but also consideration for how best to organize and emphasize information in a digital context, and consider accessibility for a diverse audience. Adding visual graphics, closed captioning, and attempting to achieve the right level of technical detail for the intended audience – all built on principles learned in this program. A clear demonstration of how what I have learned can translate to a professional context.
